Based on an illness in the family. We really hit hard times and because it wasn’t going to go away, this illness as a 2 income family, we had lost one income and I remember specifically looking out the backyard when my bank account was down to jeez, I think about 3 or 4 thousand dollars, thinking, you know how are we were going to get through this? And then it occurred to me as I was working for another company in Massachusetts, as I was primarily working wind damage claims. I could easily do the same thing here, in Rhode Island, this time for myself. And that’s exactly what I did. And so that’s how Bucci Roofing actually came to be. That was the reasoning behind it. It’s not, it’s not something that I thought I was going to love when I was selling roofing. It wasn’t something I really enjoyed that much. But the second I started that business, I fell right in love with it. And I never looked back.
Yeah, Bucci Roofing is a family business. The people involved are my son Devin, who installs our gutters and down spouts. His cousins, Lee and Trevor also out here estimating as well as Trevor’s father, Dana, who is our staff adjuster.
So we don’t offer emergency services, but we do serve all of Rhode Island, all of Connecticut, and the southern half of Massachusetts.
As far as I know, from whatever research I’ve done, I haven’t found another company in Rhode Island that has a Staff Adjuster, so it’s very uncommon, and it’s great for homeowners because if you have a question that we need to get an answer to you immediately we can do that for you.
So when we receive a call from a potential customer who says that they have had some damage to their home, we’ll come out and do an inspection and determine what that damage is. Most often they have shingles that have been blown off or hail damage, and once we determine that we have a legitimate claim. We’ll sit down with the customer and we will put a claim in with them. Once we have a claim number, I’ll head back to the office and put together a scope of all the work that needs to be done. The customer will give us a call and let us know when the adjuster is planning on coming out, and we’ll meet the customer, we’ll meet the adjuster onsite, explain what needs to be done, why we have a claim in and then the adjuster will go back to their office and determine whether or not they’re going to pay for that. With our company, we have about a 99% success rate. Once they pay for that, and they say they’re going to pay for it, they’ll send the first check out to the homeowner. That typically has the mortgage company on it as well. The homeowner is then responsible to have that cleared by their bank and put in their account. Once that’s clear, they give us a call. We write up our contract, pick a color, and begin the roofing process.
So the metal roofing, and the asphalt roofing typically have the same warranties. It really comes down to aesthetics. We find that homeowners who just love metal roofs want to have a metal roof. The advantage with the metal roof like an asphalt roof is it’s going to last a long time. The only disadvantage is it costs more, and it may cost twice as much as an asphalt roof. So again, it’s really up to the homeowner to decide whether they need one and, if they really want one. And if they do, are the aesthetics of that roof worth what it will cost them.
It’s a tricky process. Certainly, we have to get on that roof and make and inspect the roof fully. Look for anything that we can find that may be contributing to this leak that needs to be repaired. As long as we can find it, we certainly will repair it. If there’s no way to determine where it’s coming from, then oftentimes it does need a full replacement because oftentimes that roof is already 20 years old when it’s begun to leak. What makes it difficult is when the roof has multiple layers, because if it has two or more layers. I can guarantee you that what’s there, what we need under there by code is not there, or I some issue was invented, you know back in the 60s. So there are things missing so many times. It’s just a good idea to replace the roof anyway, depending on the amount of layers that are on that roof.
Well, the best way is not to ignore what you see on the ground. You know, oftentimes people find shingles on the ground, and they think, well, they must have come from my neighbor’s house when in fact, take a good look at your roof. They may very well have come from your own house, and they probably did. So if pieces of the roof are breaking off, and they’re on the ground, the wind has probably lifted those shingles and snapped them off. And if that’s happened, there’s a very good chance that you have a claim. You should call Bucci Roofing. We’ll send someone out there and take a look at it for you.
The ventilation is probably the most important part of any roofing process. Every home needs to be properly ventilated. Living here in New England, we have a lot of old homes that aren’t ventilated. Not by today’s standards. Soffit venting can be installed in some, ridge venting can also be installed, box venting can be installed. I can’t stress how important it is to get all that moisture and heat out of that attic space. Everything you breathe, you run hot water, you cook, all of these. All of these create moisture and moisture needs to escape the house, and if they can’t, you’ll end up with rotted plywood, rotten in many places that you don’t want, so it is very, very important and the best part about it is that it will help your roof last to its maximum.
So the roof. Warranties are 40 and 50 years, depending, to get the 50-year warranty. There’s a little extra work that needs to be done, and it is that the home was expense. We warranty our labor for 10 years.
Well, actually it’s been a very positive experience. You know, Eric and his team, son Devin, have been absolutely exceptional in terms of their customer service, quality, the workmanship. We had a rather complex roofing design. We had a rubber boot that had to be replaced. We had a widows walk posted in the rail system that had to be replaced. There are actually a lot of components, a lot of work to would be done. Each part of the roofing design required a different team. Eric, which was extraordinary in terms of his deliverables, when he was expected to be here. His customer service, his overall service quality diligence to the work, we’re very, very pleased with the work that Eric and his team provided to us and we’re very happy overall with the final product that the roof design, the widows walk, the rubber roof and every component of his design and execution of the overall project.
Actually, it’s an interesting question. So early on in the process, we had essentially created requests for proposals from various roofing companies because of the level of complexity associated with our roofing design. We found that you know, overall the pricing was very competitive, the work results we’re very, happy with, but generally, it was just a pleasure of working with Eric and working with the son Devin in terms of all of the elements of our design, including the gutter replacement work, the gutter repairs, essentially everything to make this house solid and structurally sound.
