Jamestown is a town located in Newport County in Rhode Island. Situated on Conanicut Island- the second largest island on Narragansett Bay, the coastal city also includes Gould Island and the secluded Dutch Island in its territory.
The coastal town lies 25 miles from Providence and connects Rhode island to Aquidneck island in Narragansett Bay.

Jamestown was originally settled in 1678 as part of the Massachusetts Bay Colony and was later incorporated in Rhode Island in 1746.
Named in honor of James, Duke of York, Jamestown was home to the British fleet during the American Revolution. The British destroyed the forts and burned down the Beavertail Lighthouse- Rhode Island’s notable historic lighthouse before leaving Narragansett Bay in 1779.
Later the forts were again re-established during World War I and II when the area became home to several military bases.
